Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: ENTJ

ENTJ | presentation of the Commander | MBTI profile

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a self-awareness tool that helps people to find out about their psychological preferences. The MBTI classifies personalities into 16 different types of personnalities. These personalities are based on how people interact with others and what influences their decision-making. Among these distinct personality types, ENTJ is one of them.

Who developed MBTI?

MBTI was developed by a mother-daughter duo, namely Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers. The idea of MBTI was originally generated from Carl’s theory. While researching personality types, they find a great similarity between their hypothesis and Carl Jung’s Theory. The first MBTI questionnaire was published in 1943 and was developed in the United States. Thus, this duo put Jung’s theory to practical use by making it accessible to people in their daily lives.

What does ENTJ Stand For?

ENTJ is an acronym for Extraverted, Intuition, Thinking, and Judging. These four words define the characteristic patterns of these personalities and let us know how people make use of each instinct to drive the world around them. These are the cognitive functions that help in shaping the personality. Often, primary and secondary functions are the guiding force for the individual to lead their life. Considering ENTJ, the dominant personality function is extraverted in nature.

Not only that, but they are super organized and love to plan things ahead of time. They are confident in their voice and possess charisma that fits them perfectly as leaders. Such characteristics of ENTJ tend to make them appear as emotionless workaholics, but instead, they possess an emotional side too. However, they want to keep their emotions to themselves so that people around they do not feel them to be weak by any means.

Is ENTJ a Rare Personality?

ENTJ are rare as they contributes about 1.8% of the total population of the world, making it the second rare MBTI personality. There are both pros and cons to having a rare personality type. The positive side of being unique is that it makes you stand out in your career.

However, ENTJs are usually misinterpreted at times, because people fail to understand their preferences and working styles since they are rare.

Weaknesses of ENFJ Personalities

We can grow and prosper either by utilizing our strengths or overcoming our weaknesses. The desire to improve weaker aspects of personality and be able to overcome those fears can go a long way. The ENTJs as we know are in the leading positions, usually this at times makes them arrogant and stubborn. They are blunt and dominant and expect everyone to meet their standards. Only logical and analytical approach appeals to them, and this makes them objective about others’ work. Apart from work, they are not even good with their emotions and are usually insensitive. Despite their interactive nature, they are reluctant to give even a small word of encouragement to their subordinates. While focusing on the bigger picture, they often overlook the small details.

ENTJ Cognitive Functions

The four cognitive functions predicted the behavior and shape the personality of the person. Usually, the first and second functions contribute the most to developing personality preferences. Here we have a brief description of each function:

Extraverted Thinking: It is the most dominant function that derives the energy of the person externally. Such people set long-term goals and have clear objectives to achieve them in time. They are quite ambitious and perform well under stressful situations.

Introverted Intuition: This is the auxiliary function of ENTJs. They always have an endeavor to look up to and find possibilities to achieve the best results. They do not resist change at the workplace and are adaptable. Furthermore, they always listen to their instincts to reach the conclusion.

Extraverted Sensing: The tertiary function of ENTJs inculcates the urge for thrill and adventures in them. They love being surrounded by natural beauty and even appreciate the thing they like. This cognitive function evolves the joyful side of the ENTJ personality type.

Introverted Feeling: The inferior function of ENTJs has to do with emotional feelings. They lack the understanding of how to utilize this aspect of their personality in their personal and professional life. They do not feel comfortable expressing their emotions and want to keep themselves free from such conversations.

The commanders tend to have a clear vision of their decisions. They are verbal and confident with ideas and support arguments with logic and deep analysis. At work, they are committed to making things go smoothly and contribute fully to it. In relationships, they maintain a balance and often avoid meeting either of the extremes.
